"Every year, South Africa loses more of the people who were part of the Soweto Uprising. Not as statistics. As specific human beings who carry specific memories that exist nowhere else on earth. When they are gone, those memories go with them. We have less time than we think."

Yesterday, I told you about walking the road. Today I want to tell you about sitting in the room with the people who survived it. Not at a stage. Not behind a glass panel in a museum. In a circle. At eye level. In the exact homes and churches where their courage was tested and their sacrifices made.

On 9 June 2026, Vonage YouthDev Solutions will seat 50 young South Africans inside Regina Mundi Church, where hundreds sheltered from teargas, where the walls carried bullet holes from the apartheid security forces, and inside Winnie Mandela House. Seated with them: struggle veterans. And the instruction is simple: ask them everything.

Here is what most people don't realise about oral history: it cannot be recovered. Once a person is gone, their specific version of events, the detail only they experienced, the emotional truth only they carry, is gone. The Testimony Circles are not a heritage event. They are an emergency. And they are happening on 9 June 2026 with 50 seats and no exceptions.
