Have You Been To A Learnership After Learnership
And Still Unemployed
Awe Digital Revolutionary,
To every young person who has been to three to five learnerships and has zero to show for it: Your silence is protecting the people who failed you.
We are going to be direct with you today.
If you have attended training workshop after training workshop.
Learnership after learnership.
Youth empowerment programme after youth empowerment programme.
And you are still unemployed.
And you have never said anything publicly about it, because you didn't want to seem ungrateful, or you thought maybe it was your fault, or nobody asked.
We are asking now.
Your silence is protecting a system that collected R20+ billion in skills levies last year and cannot tell you how many of the youth it trained are employed today.
Your silence is protecting organisations that used your photo in their annual report and haven't called you since.
Your silence is protecting a Balkanized youth development industry that survives and thrives precisely because the youth it fails are too polite, too tired, or too conditioned to complain.
We are not asking you to complain.
We are asking you to testify.
There is a difference.
Complaining is personal.
Testimony is political.
When you share your experience in public with honesty, specificity and full weight of what you have been through, you are contributing to a body of evidence that cannot be dismissed.
Tell us:
How many programmes have you attended?
What did they promise you?
What happened after?
Where are you now?
What did the organisation running the programme say when they ended it?
Your testimony is part of a National Evidence Report that we are building.
Your name does not need to be used.
Your experience does.
Speak.
The system is counting on your silence.
Disappoint it.
Respond.
